AUTHOR Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy is being read on practically every Tube train in the London so it is with bated breath that fans have waited for the movie adaptation.
Fortunately THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (18) doesn't disappoint. It's an eye watering thrill ride from start to finish, and at two and a half hours that's no mean feat.
Noomi Rapace perfectly portrays the moody, brooding Salander, with a Gothic hair flick any self-respecting emo would be proud of. But it's her enviable skills for computer hacking and personal retribution that make her a modern day anti-heroine. I defy you not to whoop and cheer when she wreaks revenge on her sadistic guardian.
And when she teams up with principled journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) to solve the mystery of a wealthy teenager, who disappeared 40 years ago, so begins the adventures of the most unlikely pairing in the crime thriller genre.
Swedish director Niels Arden Oplev has hit the nail on the head with this stunning adaptation and if Hollywood ever gets its grubby mitts on a remake, as has been rumoured, it will be a sad day for us all. - DAISY COLLINS
